The Westfield Corporation’s iconic shopping centre portfolio stretches around the globe, from London to LA to Australia. When Westfield London opened in 2008, it redefined the retail landscape, bringing over 27.5 million annual visits to the site. Westfield’s philosophy centres around the seamless integration of digital technology and the guest experience. Whether shopping, eating, exercising or watching a film, it was crucial that reliable technology made up the backbone of the centre.
Bringing the site’s network to life was a mammoth task, and ExcelRedstone were appointed to implement a site-wide Cisco network, as well as CCTV and Access Control over 43 acres. Not only was is our largest project to date, but the location also featured a range of environment types from car parks to kitchens, all requiring different implementation methods.
We helped Westfield deliver an unparalleled shopping experience with cutting-edge digital services. In total, we securely integrated more than 40 independent systems.
We provided cabling throughout, along with ICT consultancy and firewalls to give one of the country’s biggest shopping centres an equally impressive, resilient network.
That site-wide network needed to be used, and tested, by contractors throughout construction, and now serves up hundreds of wireless access points and CCTV cameras, as well as driving automated car park control and shop alarms.
The scale of the project presented some unique challenges. Contractual changes with Landlord partners led to large changes in the network design, and required agility to respond to the new requirements. In the project’s final week, to ensure that scope changes didn’t put the deadline in jeopardy, contractors were working around the clock, developing new, more efficient implementation methods.
The project was completed on time, and represented the most complex retail system integration that either Westfield or ExcelRedstone had attempted.
Our rapid response to changing requirements, along with innovative new processes cemented our position as a leader in the retail space. Thankfully Westfield agreed, and chose us to support the site for the following years.
